Sébastien joined B12 Consulting as an Associate in May 2023.
He obtained a Master’s degree in Physics at UCLouvain in 2014 and a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics in 2018. His thesis focused on measuring properties of the Higgs boson by analyzing the huge amounts of data generated by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN using Machine Learning techniques.
Before joining B12 Consulting he worked as a postdoctoral researcher, first at the University of Zurich, then back at UCLouvain, between 2018 and 2023. During his postdocs, he contributed to the development of large-scale data analysis software, and implemented a microservice-based remote control and monitoring system supporting the assembly of a new particle detector. He was also involved in various teaching and outreach activities, such as organizing students’ visits to CERN or introducing high-schoolers to the world of particle physics.
Thanks to his academic background, Sébastien has experience with building intricate applications handling substantial data volumes. Proficient in Python and C++, he continually expands his skill set by exploring technologies such as Scala and Angular. He also brings a working knowledge of relational databases and a diverse expertise in Machine Learning and Data Science techniques. Sébastien brings a unique ability to solve complex problems with clarity and logical thinking. His experience in large scientific collaborations has honed his communication skills and nurtured a collaborative approach to team play.
Upon starting at B12 Consulting, he joined the team maintaining a working full-stack web application destined to monitor and predict the production of a large number of photovoltaic power plants. He quickly gained a broad overview of this complex project, and was able to contribute to the constant improvement of the platform.
In his free time Sébastien enjoys gardening, woodworking, reading, as well as spending time with his family. You are also likely to find him riding his bike or hanging from a climbing rope.
