Mathias Michielsen

Mathias joined B12 in November 2023 as an Associate.

He began his academic journey at KULeuven, with a Bachelor's degree in Physics, followed by a Master's degree in Astronomy & Astrophysics. Mathias then went on to successfully defend his Ph.D. thesis titled 'Forward Seismic Modelling of B-type Stars' in 2022, specializing in 'asteroseismology' — the study of stellar pulsations. Before joining B12, he spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher developing a data analysis pipeline to decipher the interior structure of stars.

While Mathias's primary expertise is in data science, he is always eager to broaden his skills and knowledge by exploring new tools and technologies.

In his free time, Mathias is an avid reader of fantasy novels, but this only takes precedence if he hasn't organized an afternoon of board games or Dungeons & Dragons with his friends.
